What should I check before converting an extender into a wired access point?

If an Ethernet run reaches a difficult room, a supported extender may be reusable as an access point. This changes the upstream path from Wi-Fi to cable and lets you place the radio near the clients that need coverage. Check the exact model, hardware revision and manual for Access Point mode. An Ethernet socket alone does not prove that the feature is available. TP-Link's documentation explicitly notes that some extender models lack AP mode.

Why can a busy room have full Wi-Fi bars but poor performance?

A room can show strong Wi-Fi signal while calls and downloads slow down whenever everyone starts working. Coverage answers whether clients can establish a useful radio connection. Capacity asks whether the shared system can carry their simultaneous workloads. A dozen idle phones create a different demand from a dozen laptops joining video meetings or downloading large files. Record the applications, approximate concurrency and times when the problem appears.

How should I test a new mesh kit before keeping it?

A mesh kit passing its setup wizard is the beginning of validation. Before the return period ends, test whether it actually solves the household problems that justified the purchase. Examples include a stable call in the upstairs office, smooth streaming in the television room and usable coverage on a particular patio. Be specific about the device and location. “Faster Wi-Fi everywhere” is difficult to measure consistently.

Will adding another mesh node always improve coverage?

Adding another mesh node is tempting when a speed test disappoints, but node count alone does not determine performance. TP-Link explicitly notes that more Deco units do not always improve throughput or stability, especially when there are no coverage gaps. List the rooms and tasks that fail. If performance is poor everywhere, including beside the main router on a wired connection, another wireless node is unlikely to address the primary issue. If one distant room fails, additional coverage may be relevant.
