Why does copper-clad aluminum cable matter for PoE?

When purchasing Ethernet cable, look for the conductor material as well as the category label. Copper-clad aluminum, commonly abbreviated CCA, is not the same construction as a suitable copper conductor. Fluke Networks highlights resistance and compliance concerns with CCA cabling. PoE carries electrical power along the data cable. Resistance and balance affect that path as well as ordinary data performance. An installation that appears to pass light traffic does not thereby prove suitable behavior under the intended powered-device load.

What does PoE port priority control during a power shortage?

Some managed PoE switches let you assign port priorities. These settings can influence which devices retain power when the available PoE budget is insufficient, but they do not increase the switch's total power capacity. List the access points, cameras and other powered devices connected to each port. Decide which services are essential for the installation. On a shared network, that decision belongs with the responsible administrator rather than being inferred from port numbers.

What compatibility difference matters between PG2400P and TL-PA9020P?

The PG2400P and TL-PA9020P are both intended to extend wired networking through suitable mains wiring, but they belong to different powerline families. TP-Link identifies the former as G.hn and the latter as HomePlug AV2. That difference should lead the purchase decision. List the adapters already serving other rooms. A matching supported family may simplify expansion. Replacing just one endpoint with a different standard will not create a faster mixed pair; it can leave that endpoint unable to communicate at all.

How do I calculate a PoE switch’s required power budget?

A PoE switch has two important power limits: what an individual port can supply and what all active ports can supply together. Counting free sockets alone is not enough when adding access points, cameras or phones. For each powered device, record its required PoE standard, documented maximum or allocated power requirement and intended switch port. Use the exact model's datasheet. A typical consumption figure may exclude features such as a camera's heater or infrared illumination.
