Reconnect an Amped SR10000 after changing the router Wi-Fi name or password

Applies to: Amped Wireless SR10000, following the published revision 1.1 user guide.

The extender needs the router’s current home-network details. The SR10000 can keep broadcasting its own extended network even when its upstream connection no longer works. If the problem began after you renamed the router Wi-Fi or changed its password, investigate that connection first.

Write down two network identities

Make a private note of the router’s current Wi-Fi name and the extender’s extended-network name. They serve different purposes: one is the network the SR10000 joins, and the other is the network your laptop or phone joins. Treat their passwords as separate entries even if you intentionally made them identical.

Check the router before the extender

Connect a test device directly to the router’s current Wi-Fi and open a normal website. If that fails, resolve the router connection first. If it works, reconnect to the SR10000 and open its local web menu. The manufacturer guide uses setup.ampedwireless.com for local setup.

Refresh the upstream connection

Amped’s troubleshooting instructions recommend running the wizard again after a change to the home network. Select the correct current network and supply its Wi-Fi key. The SR10000 uses 2.4 GHz for this connection; do not select a 5 GHz-only network. Its guide recommends a scan signal of at least 70%. Complete the wizard and let it apply the settings before testing.

Test without confusing the two networks

Reconnect the test device to the intended extended network. Check its displayed network name before opening a website, especially if the router and extender names look similar. If you changed the extended-network password as well, update that saved connection on the test device.

Record three outcomes: direct router internet access, the wizard’s upstream connection result, and internet access through the extender. If the first works and the last fails, those notes keep the investigation focused on the extender path rather than the provider.

Do not reset every network device at once. Preserve a working direct-router connection while diagnosing the extender. If current router security settings are incompatible with this legacy device, review a supported replacement or manufacturer guidance rather than weakening the entire home network.
