Should garden Wi-Fi use an indoor node or outdoor equipment?

An indoor mesh node near a window may cover a small garden, but that result depends on the building, glazing and where people use their devices. If the signal remains unreliable, a purpose-built outdoor unit is a different installation choice from putting an indoor extender under a cover. Use a safe indoor position with a viable upstream connection. Test the phone or laptop at the actual seating area and near the garden's far edge. Repeat with the window and door in their normal closed positions.

Why does a phone stay connected to a distant router?

A phone may remain connected to the main router after you walk beside an extender using the same Wi-Fi name. The client decides when to seek another access point, and matching network names alone do not create a coordinated mesh system. Use the router or extender's client list where available to identify which device is serving the phone. Update or refresh the view before drawing a conclusion. A remembered list entry can remain visible after the client has moved.

What belongs in a useful network hardware inventory?

A useful home-network inventory does more than list “router” and “extender.” Exact model and hardware information can determine which firmware is appropriate, which replacement is compatible and where a fault should be investigated. For each device, note the manufacturer, model, hardware revision and a private descriptive label. Record the installed firmware and official support page. TP-Link's extender maintenance guidance illustrates why revision information matters when selecting an update.

Why does copper-clad aluminum cable matter for PoE?

When purchasing Ethernet cable, look for the conductor material as well as the category label. Copper-clad aluminum, commonly abbreviated CCA, is not the same construction as a suitable copper conductor. Fluke Networks highlights resistance and compliance concerns with CCA cabling. PoE carries electrical power along the data cable. Resistance and balance affect that path as well as ordinary data performance. An installation that appears to pass light traffic does not thereby prove suitable behavior under the intended powered-device load.
